The claw clip accessory got its name from the rows of teeth clamped down as a claw. Other than claw clips the other name people generally associate them to jaw clips. Claw clips are spin-offs from the 1980s, “Banana clips.” Claw clips are having a comeback these years they can be seen all around the world by people of all ages. Claw clips have been used throughout many generations although it was originally invented in the early 1900s by the French Inventor Christian Potut, but have evolved by designers experimenting with new colors, materials, shape, and size to create a better and improved clip. Nowadays claw clips come in all different types of sizes, shapes, and designs. Claw clips are typically retailed for extremely affordable prices.

Claw clips are easy-to-use and are cute accessories that have greatly impacted lives. Christian Potut had previously been selling all different types of hair accessories with his wife when he came up with the idea of claw clips in 1989. He states in an Interview with BBC News that when coming up with the idea he thought of combs and clips, leading to him wondering what would happen if he combined both to make a new invention of his own. Now these clips are a staple to everyday looks, becoming popular with supermodels, for example, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. Plus, it had been going viral all-around social media from Tik Tok to even Pinterest.

Prices can vary from one single dollar to 5 dollars. Although that may be the case for only one, brands have created packs of claw clips of different colors/shapes/designs to help you choose the perfect one to match your outfits. In this case, many more clips can result in a price increase. You can find claw clips at any retail store including Target, Walmart, and many others, they are also sold online, the big websites where you can buy them for cheaper prices are Amazon, Shein, and Ulta Beauty. If you prefer to support small businesses there are some options including kovessentials.com, Emi jay, and Tonirose. co. Although these smaller businesses are more expensive than the other brands, they claim to do a better job of working with all different hair types and lengths. “Tonirose. co” has done several testing experiments on its TikTok page, testing the hold and durability of its clips which intrigues viewers into buying the product.

This trend has reached Santa Maria High School as well as many other schools around the world. Girls who had been or are currently swimming for PE have been seen wearing claw clips to prevent their hair from getting wet by the pool water. Others on campus can be seen wearing them as cute hairstyles like updos, or half up half down hairstyles with their clips. You can also see some girls having their claw clips holding onto their backpacks to prevent them from getting lost which makes the clips even more convenient.

Unlike hair ties claw clips don’t leave creases on the hair after wearing it for a long period. Claw clips shouldn’t pull any hair out if used correctly unlike the case with hair ties which tend to pull and damage the hair, any claw clip can be used as a hair comb when there’s no other alternative, press down to open up the claw’s teeth and gently start brushing the hair to get rid of any tangles.

Serenia Reyes Salazar a freshman at Santa Maria High School has stated “It holds your hair and it’s useful when you don’t have a comb you can use the claws on the clip to comb through your hair.”

Hii! My name is Elizabeth although I typically go by Ellie by close family members and friends. I am fourteen years old making me a FRESHMAN this year, which means this is my first year at Santa Maria High School, it's also my first year taking journalism, I am excited to start interviewing people and start writing stories for THE BREEZE! Some stuff about me is I LOVE the color PINK. My favorite movie is mean girls, my favorite character from it has to be Karen Smith. Out of School I enjoy sleeping, reading and drawing. One big fact about me Is I love to organize stuff, whether it's my backpack, my room, or my mom's kitchen drawers, but if I'm being honest, it gets messy extremely fast probably in less than a week my stuff will get messy again and again. I also love to eat. I am not picky when it comes to food, I enjoy trying new food I've never tried before. I also enjoy cooking new stuff I mostly spend my time finding recipes from Tik Tok or Pinterest and try them out at home, I typically enjoy cooking sweets things like cupcakes, waffles and others. In the future I want to become an interior designer. This idea came to me in the beginning of my 7th grade. I had an AVID elective which means we would study different careers that's when I found Interior design. I hope I can accomplish this dream career of mine!
