Expect a star-spangled evening as SMJUHSD’s Military Signing Day takes place at Righetti High School on Monday, May 20th.
Seniors from Righetti, Santa Maria, Pioneer Valley, and Delta High Schools plan to celebrate joining the military at 6:30 p.m. inside the RHS cafeteria.
The future service members have committed to serve in the Army (15), Navy (6), Air Force/Space Force (3), and Marines (15).
Warrior Teacher Dutch Van Patten believes the recognition is long overdue.
“Athletes and graduates are celebrated with signings and ceremonies and these young people should be too,’’ Van Patten said. “Realistically, these kids are signing full rides. They are all making a good choice. This is a positive thing.’’
