Friday night the Santa Maria Saints varsity and junior varsity football teams hosted East Bakersfield with a winning varsity score of 3-0.  The junior varsity team also took the win with a score of 19-14, as reported by David Ramos.

At the half, the varsity game had a score of 0-0. The third quarter finally saw points on the board with a field goal by Saints senior Jose Torres.

When asked why the score had not advanced in the first half of the game, one varsity player stated, “it was us against ourselves on the field.”  He added that the game is not just physical; it’s also mental.

This is the first year as head coach for Albert Mendoza. When asked how they think he’s doing, the players said, “this team is ride or die with Coach Albert.”

Our next home game will be against San Marcos this Friday, August 27th at Dave Boyd Field here at home. Come cheer your team on!
