The Unclear Future of TikTok
TikTok is getting banned around
The federal government wants to ban TikTok and not a lot of people like the idea of seeing TikTok getting banned. As we’ve seen it’s one of the top most used and downloaded apps so far, with about 834.3 million monthly users worldwide in 2023. Which is what most people use as their entertainment (especially teenagers). An article on the online magazine Verge, stated, “concerns over the app’s alleged risks to national security have spanned two presidential administrations and forged alliances among Republicans and Democrats. At a time of heightened partisanship, TikTok and its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, have become the focus of anti-China policy — a convenient villain most lawmakers are prepared to fight.”
TikTok has had quite an impact on us, as a result of the high user rate there is more of an impact on the information that is spread. TikTok is where we found out in what happened around the world. We’ve came across such: Area 51, Ukraine Vs Russia, BLM (Black Lives Matter), climate change, Covid, political stuff, trends, and exposing certain people out. The platform is where most users share either truthful information or misinformation about what goes around the world. Letting us know the harsh truth that is being kept from us as citizens, by helping us reach awareness.
Say goodbye to freedom? Why exactly is the government trying to ban Tiktok? Well, they say that they grow fear, that China is gathering data about Americans and spying on us. That they can track/access our information and use our data by sharing it with others. Facebook has been doing that for quite a while, in sharing information with third parties, so why haven’t they banned Facebook already?
As for now, Montana has officially banned TikTok being one of the first states in the United States. It’s shocking that they can ban TikTok, but they still can’t ban weapons for kids, does it make any sense? Montana has among the worst gun laws in the country and has the highest rate of household firearm ownership.
As we’ve seen we’re in a generation in which little kids watch TikTok and spend most of their time on it. Not just that they’re addicted to their devices, I’m not saying let’s ban all social media. However, I do believe that we should be able to provide future generations with less usage of social media. So they can properly develop their growth mindset.
TikTok has been putting a 1-hour limit, giving you notice of how long you’ve been on the app. And I’m pretty sure most of you, put the code and keep watching because that’s what I do. But is it TikTok really to blame for our decisions?
I know that the federal government has a disagreement, but do they really know the self-awareness about technology? Just because they’re older, doesn’t mean they’re wiser, and just because I’m younger doesn’t make me any less wiser. But that’s a topic for another day.
However, at the end of the day, it’s really up to you how wisely you spend your time. Whether it’s watching TikTok or going out and doing self-improvement among yourself. I mean it is a free country after all, right?
