The Grammys 2022
The Grammys receive negative reviews this year.
Sunday, April 3rd, was the 64th annual Grammy Awards ceremony. It was held at the MGM Grand Arena Garden, in Las Vegas. The Grammy nominations were revealed on November 23rd, 2021 through a livestream. There are a variety of categories in which many artists who are eligible of winning a Grammy are nominated.
This years winners were Doja Cat, SZA, Silk Sonic, Jon Batiste, Olivia Rodrigo, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Rüfüs Du Sol, Tyler the creator, Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alexa Cuba, Bad Bunny, Jazmin Sullivan, Chris Stapleton, Brothers Osborne, and Foo Fighters.
Although the Grammy Award ceremony seemed great this year, a lot of viewers were upset. A lot of fans argued that the Grammys were using the artists such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and BTS for views. Fans said the artists deserved better and that it was unfair how such big artists left home empty handed.
The Grammys also got accused of being xenophobic and racist. Many fans say that the Grammys disrespect Black music, and how they are racist towards Asians. This is because fans believe that black artists who receive. nominations don’t always receive the award although their songs were one of the biggest hits. An example of this would be the singer The Weeknd, with his song ‘Blinding Lights’, which charted number one on Billboard Charts and one of the biggest hits, but The Weeknd did not receive a Grammy which surprised the fans.
The accusations against the Grammys for being racist towards Asians started last year in 2021 when BTS got nominated for ‘Dynamite’ which was one of the biggest hits of the year, and yet BTS did not get the award. This is not what made the fans angry; what made them go against Grammys was when the Grammys uploaded a video of the performance of BTS and they cut off some of the parts of the video. Again this year, BTS were nominated in the category of ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ with one of their biggest hit ‘Butter’. Unfortunately for them, they did not take home the award. Fans continue to send hate towards the Grammys, accusing them of using BTS for views.
Fans are now saying that the Grammys are not worth watching anymore, although some people think it is still fun to watch. Congratulations to all winners of this year.
