    Human Trafficking Around the World

Statistics from the CTDC on Human Trafficking worldwide.

Towards the end of the film, Sound of Freedom, there are real-world statistics on human trafficking given after the epilogue on the real Tim Ballard. According to the film, “there are more slaves now than there were when slavery was legal.”

Our staff was able to build a pie chart that demonstrates the different types of human trafficking around the world as of 2019.

According to the CTDC, (Counter Trafficking Data Collective) around the world, 30% of the human trafficking occurring is going towards forced labor. This includes domestic work, agriculture, manufacturing, and construction. 63% is going to Sexual exploitation.

We also found that, over time, there is more sexual exploitation when it comes to children as of 2017.

    Story continues below advertisement

Due to the fact that there is overall more Sexual exploration around the world, it is very disturbing that children are mainly being Sexually exploited.

    Oswaldo Hernandez-Perez
Hey! My name is Oswaldo Hernandez-Perez, but you can call me Waldo. This is my last year at Santa Maria High School as I am now a senior. I enjoy listening to music and filming my friends skating on my free time. I haven't written anything too promising lately, but I am excited to write a lot about our community and school this year. I feel confident that I will be able to contribute to the breeze in a helpful manner. I have experience in filming and I would love to interview people about their thoughts on our community. I am currently taking journalism because I am interested in writing stories and informing others on news and whatnot. I feel honored to be a part of The Breeze this year. I appreciate Mrs. Van D for giving me a third chance to one of her many classes lmao.

Hello, my name is Nathan Ochoa, and I am a senior attending SMHS (surprise). I was born here in Santa Maria on December 11, 2005 and have lived here my entire life. My brother, who some may know, attends UCLA as of now. My plan for the future is to attend AHC and possibly move on to another college. I want to major in either engineering or photography. In my free time, I enjoy sleeping, reading, and gaming. I sleep at a 'less than reasonable' time, but who doesn't now, right? My favorite book would be The Martian, by Andy Weir, where astronaut Mark Watney is accidently left behind on Mars because his crew thought he had died. My favorite games are Ultrakill and Hollow Knight, to name a few, as there are too many to name. I love to travel, and have been to many major cities in the United States. I have been to Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Diego, and Honolulu in that order. My favorite being Chicago for many reasons. I am going to Japan with Mrs. Van D on spring break of 2024. It will be my first time out of the country, and what makes it scary is the fact that I am going without my parents or family, just my teacher and some friends. I was not entirely sure what I wanted to do this year, as I only have two required classes. I chose to do journalism because I know Mrs. Van D and I always wanted to improve my writing. Writing for this site has always been a want for me, and now I finally can. I hope to improve the Breeze as much as I can, and I cannot wait to see what happens. I am excited to be a contributor this year.
