The Santa Maria High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Executive Leadership Team recently developed a community service project that raised funds for victims of the Maui Fire.

For a few weeks, the students campaigned at lunchtime outside the school store and collected about $200. Then, the FBLA decided to add to the donation by using money from their treasury, making the total donation $500.

The funds were sent to KUPC, a Honolulu non-profit organization with a mission to empower youth to serve their communities.

“It was a very warm-hearted moment to see a lot of our FBLA members help out in the Maui relief! It shows how a group of students can make a big difference!” – Noemi Guerrero-Lucas, SMHS Parliamentarian/Historian.

“We formed this committee to help out with raising money for Maui and we want to thank our contributing donors and recognize our committee team for their earnest work in regard to raising funds for Maui and trying to help others as much as they have done.’’ – Marisol Villegas, Club Secretary.

Cindy Quaid (Advisor) added, “Service is a core aspect of our student organization, and our students were generous and felt compassion for those that were impacted by the devastation of the fire.”
