The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist?
How would you feel if you were to be catfish for 2 years? How does this affect Manti Te’o?
Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, a Netflix documentary film. This film covers the story of Manti Te’o and his online “girlfriend” Lennay Kekua.
Manti Te’o would be in an online relationship for 2 years just to find out the person he was talking to wasn’t real. The online relationship would be with Lennay Kekua. Lennay would have a lot in common with him which attracted him to her. They’d soon would be in a relationship. Besides the fact Lennay wouldn’t show her face or meet up with him, there wasn’t anything suspicious to Manti Te’o.
This whole thing would ruin Manti Te’o. The relationship involved two people with emotions. It wasn’t fair what Naya (the person behind Lennay) did, she really should’ve just told the truth. I do think what Naya did was selfish. There was many ways to end the relationship.
The whole story was upsetting but which bothered me the most was the media. The way the media would handled this story was horrible. The media would call this whole story a hoax because they believe Manti Te’o wanted attention. Not only this, no one cared for his passion for football, Manti Te’o would only be known for his fake online girlfriend.
Besides how upsetting it was watching the media, I did enjoy watching this documentary. We got to see the point of view of the cat fish and the one getting cat fish. You get to experience emotions such as frustration or sadness. Overall it was a 5/5, I do recommend if you’re interested of the outcome of this whole story. If you were curious on how Manti Te’o’s whole life would change from this.
